On 3 December 2024, EARLALL hosted the webinar “Unlocking Adult Motivation for Lifelong Learning.” This session, part of the EARLALL Academy, focused on strategies to foster curiosity, engagement, and resilience among adult learners. Designed to provide lifelong learning providers with practical insights, the webinar examined how intrinsic motivation can create impactful learning experiences and help individuals adapt to a constantly changing world.

The lesson featured Katarina Pietrzak, Researcher and Strategist at the Research Institutes of Sweden, who shared her expertise in lifelong learning and competence development. Drawing on her experience with innovative pedagogical tools and systemic change, she highlighted the importance of curiosity, psychological safety, and progressive approaches to education.

Exploring Lifelong Learning: Key Themes

Katarina discussed the need to rethink traditional education by encouraging adaptable systems that support lifelong learning. She emphasised the role of curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and psychological safety in creating effective learning environments. She also underlined the potential of design thinking to encourage collaborative, learner-centred approaches. During the session, she addressed the challenges of introducing systemic change within traditional frameworks and suggested that incremental innovations could pave the way for larger transformations. Interactive discussions allowed participants to exchange ideas on promoting lifelong learning and explore collaboration opportunities, including the Erasmus+ programme.

The webinar concluded with reflections on the role of culture and mindset in shaping the future of education. Katarina’s vision for a more inclusive and flexible learning system resonated with participants, inspiring a collective commitment to creating environments that support lifelong learning.
