EARLALL Contributes to Cedefop’s Foresight Study on Future Skills Development

05/03/2025

On February 25, 2025, EARLALL participated in the third expert workshop for the development of the Cedefop Foresight Study on Continuous Skills Development in the Next 15-20 Years. The event, held in Thessaloniki, Greece, brought together 35 experts from civil society organizations (CSOs), governments, trade unions, employers, and training/guidance providers to shape a common vision for skills development by 2040.

EARLALL joined other key stakeholders in adult and vocational education and training (VET), including the Lifelong Learning Platform (LLLP) and the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA). This closing workshop built upon insights gained from two previous online workshops, refining strategic recommendations for upskilling and reskilling across Europe.

The discussions, informed by outcomes from the second online workshop in January, focused on critical topics such as promoting inclusiveness and equality, ensuring equal access to skills development, and enhancing lifelong learning and the social dimension of education. A participant from Ukraine was invited to the workshop.

EARLALL took part in the CSO working group, alongside LLLP and EAEA, to craft possible long-term visions for continuous skills development. At the end of the session, each group presented their proposed future scenarios, which will later be compiled into a comprehensive report.

The Cedefop Foresight Study is an essential initiative aiming to define a long-term strategy for skills development up to 2040. By developing alternative scenarios and action plans, the study will provide valuable guidance for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to future-proof Europe’s workforce.
