European Regions Unite to Study AI-Driven Training Participation

The TRAILS project is taking a pioneering step in exploring how personalized skill assessments can enhance participation in training programs across Europe. Led by EARLALL, in collaboration with public authorities and education providers within its network, this initiative leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning to better align training opportunities with labour market demands, ultimately empowering individuals to make informed career choices.

EARLALL Leads the Study with its Member Organizations

EARLALL is coordinating the initial phases of this study, working closely with research teams from Democritus University of Thrace, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and SkillLab. The experiment itself, scheduled for the summer of 2025, will be executed by SkillLab in collaboration with EARLALL and its member organizations:

  • Borås Municipality (Sweden)
  • Public Employment Services of Catalonia (Spain)
  • Labour Department of the Tuscany Region (Italy)
  • Adult Education Association Baden-Württemberg (VHS Verband, Germany)

These members bring invaluable expertise and local insights, ensuring that the study is deeply rooted in real-world labor market dynamics and educational frameworks.

Understanding the Impact of AI on Training Participation

The study addresses two key objectives:

  1. For Public Employment Services (PES): Investigating whether personalized skill data can improve job recommendations and training participation, while also using labor market insights to better align education and employment needs. Expected results include AI-driven recommendations, local skill gap analyses, and policy insights.
  2. For Educational Providers: Identifying courses relevant to in-demand job profiles and mapping essential skills to these courses using AI-driven tools such as SkillLab.

The Experiment: AI-Powered Training Recommendations

In the summer of 2025, unemployed individuals will undergo personalized skill assessments, receiving AI-generated training recommendations tailored to their career aspirations. Local training providers will also play a key role, ensuring that courses align with skill demands in the labor market.
